Job Description:

Objective

Strategically located resident field service technician (FST). To predominantly support TEL’s growing customer base in the ESP and ITA locations and also other strategically located customer sites. The successful candidate should be controls biased but also have mechanical experience to support servicing and commissioning of industrial gas turbines and associated equipment on client sites. On completion of site activities, the creation of all necessary reports and ensures processes and actions are completed and communicated effectively to the field service supervisor/manager and relevant customer support manager. 

Due to the locality of the position multiple language skills would be required, as detailed below.

Areas of responsibility

  • Be available to deploy to a customers site in a breakdown scenario
  • Carry out planned and unplanned (Breakdown) site maintenance as part of a multiple discipline team
  • Carry out installation and commissioning of control system upgrades and retrofits
  • Comply with field service code of practice, site and workshop procedures whilst ensuring all associated documentation is accurately completed.
  • Perform assessment of customers equipment performance and provide recommendations.
  • To provide first line of contact whilst on client sites, by responding to all queries and requests; upholding the company’s reputation and promoting further business opportunities
  • Comply with health and safety procedures whilst on client sites
  • Responsibility for maintaining high levels of housekeeping
  • Duty of care in all HSE and Quality procedures
  • Travel to client sites both in Italy, Spain or other strategically close customer sites.
  • Work in an environment, which is technical, commercial and customer orientated being responsible to support key stakeholders.
  • Ensure all works are completed on time, safely and within budget to the satisfaction of the company and the client
  • Develop effective internal and external working relations within the customer group
  • Support the controls department doing site surveys for control system upgrades and retrofits.

General 

Perform any other reasonable duties assigned by immediate line manager or senior management within the business, in line with company policies and procedures.

Skills and Knowledge Required

  • SGT 100, 200, 300, TB & TA Mechanical appreciation desirable
  • Technical understanding of gas turbine principles and proven track record within the relevant industry. 
  • Siemens PCS7 or Allen Bradley Control Logix PLC experience essential, Rustronics MKII control systems experience advantageous
  • Strong hands-on electrical background and mechanical experience to enable quick response onsite with internal inspections of compressor and hot section areas
  • Fluent English spoken language and writing skills
  • Communication skills in both Italian and Spanish

Qualifications & Attainment 

Detail the levels of educational achievement and vocational training necessary to carry out the duties of the post.  Include level depth or standard of qualification.
 

  • Modern apprentice qualified in a controls or electrical discipline 
  • NVQ levels two and three or City & Guilds equivalent
  • Certified to work in the HazLoc environment
  • Diploma or Higher National Certificate in a relevant discipline.
  • Degree or Diploma in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or relevant Engineering Discipline

Knowledge

List the areas of role specific knowledge in which the post holder would have to be proficient to carry out the duties of the post.

  • Industrial generator basic principles
  • Related gearbox familiarity
  • Auxiliary equipment familiarity and basic principle understanding 

Relevant Experience

  • 5+ years of experience completing service work 
  • Involvement in troubleshooting, identifying and solving customer issues with SGT controls systems
  • Involved with and completed the installation and commissioning of new controls system upgrades
