Supporting the local community to celebrate the birthplace of the tank

21 Jan 2015

As a company we may be known for our exporting and international reach, due to the pure nature of our industry. However we would never want to forget our local roots and the community that surrounds us at our Witham-St-Hughs facility.

We were recently made aware of a project that plans to put a 2D model of the Mark 1 tank on a local roundabout, near to the factory where it was originally produced (close to Lincoln University). The project is being brought to life by a group of individuals under the banner of the Lincoln Tank Memorial Group and was started in early 2013.

The purpose of the memorial is to educate locals and visitors to Lincoln that the first tank was in fact built in the city. It will also commemorate all the hard work that was carried out by the civilian men and women (of Lincoln) during both world wars.

We were keen to support this great cause, so much so that we have made a donation of £5,000 to assist with the completion of the project and the unveiling of the tank this spring.

Joe Cooke, Chairman of the Lincoln Tank Memorial said, “It is great that another local company has become involved and this is a fantastic boost to our fundraising efforts. The donation will help us to reach our fundraising target, ready for the unveiling of the Memorial on Sunday May 10th 2015 at 1100hrs.”
