Good filtration is vital to the efficiency of the turbine
Industrial gas turbines require a constant supply of contaminant free air for the combustion process during operation. This air will pass through a filtration system, silencer and associated ductwork before entering the gas turbine compressor inlet.
Many components within the gas turbine have protective coatings applied to reduce the rate of oxidation on the base material surface. Compressor casings are generally manufactured from large ferritic castings while compressor rotor discs and blades are manufactured from high grade steel alloys. Both materials will exhibit some form of oxidation when exposed to the atmosphere.
